1.0 Who We Are

Empowering Children, Transforming Lives

Wawezeshe Wasome Foundation is a Tanzanian non-governmental organization (Registration Number: 00NGO/R/6182) that is committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality education and the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

We believe that education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating lasting social change.

Our work focuses on identifying vulnerable children, providing educational support, mobilizing communities, and creating partnerships that remove barriers preventing children from accessing and completing their education.

2.0 Our Story

A Legacy of Compassion

Wawezeshe Wasome Foundation was not born in a boardroom. It was born in a family that believed every child deserves love, protection, and the opportunity to learn.

The journey began with one little girl living in extreme hardship. Although surrounded by poverty, she dreamed of going to school and building a better future. Her situation deeply touched Shamim Ashery Mshana, now the Foundation's Director, who lived nearby and witnessed her daily struggles.

Supported by her uncle, a respected Nyumba Kumi leader, Shamim began helping vulnerable children within their community. What started as a simple act of kindness gradually evolved into a community movement dedicated to ensuring that no child is denied an education because of poverty.

This spirit of service was inspired by Shamim's late mother, whose home was always open to children in need. She welcomed vulnerable children from the neighbourhood and, during the xenophobic unrest affecting South African migrants, even provided shelter and care for displaced families while studying at Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU).

For this family, caring for others was never charity, it was simply a way of life.

That legacy became the Wawezeshe Wasome Project, which later grew into the officially registered Wawezeshe Wasome Foundation, dedicated to restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity for vulnerable children across Tanzania.
