Women & Caregiver Empowerment

We recognize that women and mothers are the ultimate pillars of a child's development. By empowering them with economic skills, financial literacy, and sustainable resources, we ensure a safe, long-term foundation for children to remain in school.

Changing Lives in Nanja, Monduli

"When One Egg Bought One Pencil"

The Challenges We Met

In the remote village of Nanja in Monduli District, Arusha Region, many Maasai children have historically faced enormous barriers to education. Although the government invested in classroom infrastructure, many families lacked the basic resources required for children to participate effectively in learning.

πŸ₯š Eggs for Writing Materials

Without money to purchase writing materials, many pupils carried chicken eggs from home to exchange with friends in order to obtain a pen or pencil for class.

πŸ‘• School Uniforms as a Luxury

Many children, particularly girls, attended school without proper uniforms, affecting both their confidence and sense of belonging.

🍲 Hunger Kept Classrooms Empty

For many children, the only guaranteed meal of the day was the lunch provided through volunteer support. When meals were unavailable, school attendance dropped significantly.

Our Strategic Interventions

For three consecutive years, Wawezeshe Wasome Foundation has worked alongside the Nanja community to remove these barriers:

  • πŸ“š
Distribution of Materials: Distributed hundreds of exercise books, textbooks, supplementary readers, pens, pencils, and other learning materials.
  • πŸŽ’
Dignity & Confidence: Provided school uniforms, particularly for vulnerable girls, restoring dignity and confidence.
  • 🀝
Community Engagement: Organized awareness campaigns engaging parents and traditional leaders on the importance of education for every child.
  • πŸ’‘
Advocacy: Conducted outreach encouraging families to prioritize education alongside traditional livelihoods.

"Today, many children who once struggled to access basic learning materials are attending school with renewed confidence and hope."

5.0 Active Campaign

"Sharing is Caring" Campaign

Giving Books a Second Life

Through our field research across rural Tanzania, we identified one of the most overlooked challenges affecting education: The severe shortage of textbooks and supplementary learning materials.

Thousands of books remain unused in homes while countless children attend school without a single textbook to share.

To bridge this gap, Wawezeshe Wasome Foundation has launched the "Sharing is Caring" Campaignβ€”a nationwide initiative encouraging families, schools, institutions, and organizations to donate educational materials they no longer use.

A book that has completed its journey in one home can begin transforming another child's future.

What Can Be Donated?

  • βœ… Textbooks and revision books
  • βœ… Storybooks and children's literature
  • βœ… Exercise books
  • βœ… School bags
  • βœ… Pens, pencils, rulers, and mathematical sets
  • βœ… Other educational materials in good condition
Community Collection Drive

We regularly organize community collection events where individuals, schools, companies, and institutions can contribute educational materials for redistribution to underserved schools across Tanzania.

Together, we can reduce educational inequality one book, one pen, and one child at a time.
